You’re not going anywhere

I did a double-take when I walked past this home during today’s morning walk. Whoever delivered the thirty or so bags of mulch also dropped off a yard of small rocks right in back of the car.

I know this neighbor, and she’s not one for doing her own yard maintenance. I guess she won’t be going anywhere until someone gets to work on that pile of gravel.

It was dawn, and the temperatures were still cool. Surely a couple of landscapers would be around to finish up before the heat of the day.

Or did some stone delivery guy just not care where he dumped the load. When I got some rock a number of years ago, the driver told me to put down some tarps so all the dust and rocks didn’t go all over the place.

Follow up: a large crew was there when I drove by. They had ripped out all the old landscaping, and replaced it with mulch and stone. What a difference!

Crazy lights in the driveway

I think I’ve written about this guy before. He’s been systematically ripping up his sod and putting it out for trash collection.

However, on this most recent walk, we noticed the lights in the driveway. If you look closely, you’ll notice that he drilled holes in the driveway for his solar lights. That’s right, he can’t pull his car out unless he lifts them out of the holes in the concrete.

I know. both my wife and I scratched our heads. What’s going on here? He’s got thirty-two solar lights in his yard and driveway. Not along a walkway. Not along the driveway. Through the middle of the yard.

Dementia? Perhaps. A bigger project in the works? Maybe, but I doubt it. This guy is off the wall.

Do not, I repeat, do not enter this driveway

This homeowner has been carefully guarding her driveway for a year.

There are no houses under construction in this part of the neighborhood. No neighbors parking on the street overnight. It’s not near a school bus stop, so no one’s using it as a turnaround.

She just really, really doesn’t want anyone pulling in.

I find this curious. It’s not a great-looking driveway. If she really cared about it, wouldn’t she pressure wash it? And what an inconvenience. Every time she comes and goes, she has to get out of the car, disconnect the chain, and then reconnect it. I’d get tired of that routine in a day or two.

Two other houses beside her have a similar barrier at the foot of each driveway. It’s a very paranoid or protective section of the neighborhood.

It’s as bad as the many homeowners who put reflective sticks in the grass by the road so no one parks on their weedy front lawn where they stack discarded furniture days before big trash pick up. My neighbors need to relax.
