In the middle of Judah’s exile in Babylonia, at the height of Babylonian power, Esther suddenly finds herself queen. Her uncle, Mordecai, keeps his ear to the ground, and watches over her from a distance (Esther 1-2).
In that moment they have no idea what part they would play in the ongoing narrative of God’s plan of salvation for his people. That plan was in place before creation. That plan played out in the lives of Adam and Eve, Abraham, David, and so many others. “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)
That plan could play out in our lives, too. I know it seems unlikely, but maybe I am a part of God’s plan to reach someone. Maybe you are. A co-worker. A grandchild. A close friend. You just never know. Your presence, your witness, your life may be the thing that sparks someone’s interest in Christ.
You might not ever know about it. You were the right person in the right place at the right time. You made all the difference in the world.
You never know.
